"REAL MEN / REAL WOMEN"

a photo study of what is not

"In this end of the century, in the post-sexual revolution that already experienced a reversal of sexuality, the intoxicated freedom, the uno, triosexual and still to transcend the ambiguous human soul, Plauto, a Brazilian artist, frames what is not, the projection of our persona through the duality: masculine/feminine.

Looking for the "Real Men / Real Women" Plauto gives us a space to be what we are not and break through the perpetual social standards of our society. "In a society where we have to play the appearance game so hard, we can easily contradict our selves and omit who we are, our ambitions, our necessities. "This is a perfect picture of this conscious and vulnerable process of blind and massive mechanization in our modern world, where our identity gets lost.

Transcending towards androgyny after Plauto has materialized people’s persona in these prints, the artist jumps into the body with no face. Superposing masculine and feminine parts and, trying to find the lines, the colors and the truth of each one, he creates a dialogue between sexes, and goes beyond, investigating through his lenses the active woman and the passive man, which from his point of view are becoming closer. ‘I don’t believe in the opposition of sexuality, but duality that we all have in our selves. It’s not a question of man being woman or woman being man, It’s a question of being both.’

Plauto is an artist who can see head and body walking away from each other, the rational being caught by what the society asks us to perform and the body fighting the instinct that appeals so involuntary and uncontrolled in our sexuality. But the whole being is to be born, may be a holy being, who will be able to express perfect communication between "Animus – Anima" and build a new foundation of gender identification within the human race. It’s a proposal that will keep him busy for the next millennium"
